Active Travel in Hungary

Put on your skis or skates and enjoy the winter activities that Hungary has to offer, from racing down snowy slopes to gliding across ice rinks, or warming up with a hot drink at a cozy hut or bar. The country is continually enhancing its winter holiday infrastructure, making these experiences more accessible.

While Hungary lacks high mountains, winter enthusiasts can engage in skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, and sledding on many winter days—weather permitting—thanks to the installation of modern snow cannons.

The ski resorts in Eplény, Mátraszentistván, Sátoraljaújhely, and Visegrád typically remain open until early April. Additionally, Normafa Park in Budapest features a cross-country ski track equipped with snow cannons. When nighttime temperatures drop below eight or nine degrees Celsius, these snow-making machines produce high-quality snow. However, rain is the biggest threat to maintaining ski conditions. Let’s explore where you can hit the slopes, weather permitting!
